Khumalo was last seen alive a week ago when she visited Skhakhane’s home. After she failed to return, her family grew suspicious—especially when Skhakhane contacted them, feigning concern and claiming she had taken a taxi home.

Desperate for answers, the family sought the help of a traditional healer, who revealed a chilling truth: Khumalo’s remains were still inside Skhakhane’s house.

When family members and local residents confronted Skhakhane, he resisted but was overpowered. Inside the home, they made a nightmarish discovery—Khumalo’s dismembered body stored in the refrigerator, while her thigh was found cooking in a pot of curry. Disturbingly, reports indicate some of her body parts had already been eaten.

Overcome with fury, the community exacted brutal vengeance—beating Skhakhane before setting him and his house ablaze. 

Authorities are now investigating both Khumalo’s murder and the subsequent vigilante killing. The case has reignited national conversations about gender-based violence, with many demanding justice for yet another woman lost to intimate partner brutality.
